Ohio Inmate Search

The Ohio State Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections provides information on inmates currently incarcerated in the state prisons, those on parole, and escapees. 

The steps to conducting an Ohio State Inmate Search are listed below. 

Step 1: Visit the Ohio state offender locator to start your search 

Step 2: The locator offers several criteria you can use to narrow your search. They include  

• Name search – Where you can search using the offender’s first or last name. Using both names will help narrow down your inquiry faster. 
• County of Commitment – You can combine the name search with the county of commitment to ensure you get more accurate results. 
• Residential County or ZIP Search – This search criteria will provide information about inmates under the department’s supervision on probation or those on parole. 
• Offender Number – This is a six-digit unique ID of every inmate in the state prisons that you can use to conduct a more accurate search on the portal. Female inmates have a ‘W’ prefix on their number, while male inmates have an ‘A’ or ‘R’ prefix.  

Step 3: Click on the offender number to get more details about their status. You will be able to get further information, such as  

• the inmate’s mugshot,  
• the prison they are being held at,  
• Inmate status,  
• admission date,  
• offense information  
• Sentence Information.

You can also visit the prison facility where the inmate is being held. The department personnel will guide you on requesting and obtaining the information from the prison records department.
