North Dakota Inmate Search

The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation provides free access to inmates' custody status and location to the public and law enforcement. You can get this information on the website through the North Dakota offender locator tool. 

Inmate Search 

Follow the steps below to conduct a North Dakota inmate search on the department website: 

Step 1: Visit the offender locator page and enter the inmate's last name or the starting letters of the last name you want to look up, then click submit. 

Step 2: The search results will include the inmate's ID, Official first, last, and middle names, and date of birth. 

Step 3: Click on the specific resident you want to view, and details of the inmate's institution of incarceration, sentence, mugshot, and release dates will appear. 

The inmate search portal does not provide information regarding inmates sentenced to the North Dakota Department of Corrections who are: 

• Incarcerated in out-of-state facilities  
• Incarcerated in a North Dakota prison but convicted out of state 

Other ways you can conduct a North Dakota inmate search include: 

• Utilizing the Federal Prison locator—allows you to search for a specific offender from North Dakota registered in the Federal Prison System. 

If you cannot retrieve the required inmate data, you can call the Department at 701-328-6390, and department personnel will assist you in locating the needed inmate details. You can also visit the prison where your inmate is held and request the inmate's information. 

The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation also runs a Victim Services Program to provide confidential inmate data to the victims of crimes. The program provides access to inmate custody details such as parole review, release, sentence expiration, and death or escape of the inmates. To register for the program, you must first register online at ND SAVIN / VINELink, or call 701-328-6183.
