New York Inmate Search

The New York State Department of Corrections (NYDOC) monitors inmates in the community and all the state prisons. The New York Department of Corrections provides various services to offenders to assist them in reintegration into society. Some programs they run include; educational programs, work programs, treatment programs, mental health programs, family services, and housing programs. 

The agency has several ways for the general public to conduct an inmate search. You can search for an offender by emailing, calling, or visiting their offices. 

New York Inmate Search Process 

NYDOC has a locator tool available on its website to help you find inmates easily. When conducting the search process, you need to have the following:  

• The inmate Department Identification Number (DIN) is assigned by the correctional facility currently held in. 
• New York State Identification Number (NYSID): An identifier allocated to the inmate by the Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS).  
• Inmates' first and last names 
• Year of birth  

Below are the steps to follow: 

1. Visit the New York inmate lookup page. 
2. Enter the inmate name or the inmate's DIN or NYSID number on the search field and click on the 'Search' icon. 
3. A list of all inmates in state prisons appears. Click on the name of interest to view more details. 
4. For an advanced search, click on the DIN to obtain more details about the facility they are currently holding, the county, and their parole or probation dates. 

A successful search process helps you access details such as: 

• Inmate's name 
• Date of Birth 
• Status 
• Race 
• Facility Name 
• Types of offenses committed 
• Sentencing and release dates
