Community A - L: Livestock Overview
Livestock production in Montcalm County accounts for about one third of farm income. Dairy is the most important livestock enterprise in the county and is ranked 9th in the state with 8,000 milk cows. Beef cow numbers in 1999 were 1,800; hogs and pigs 18,000; sheep and lambs 600 and hens and pullets 2,200. There were also 1,600 horses in the county in 1996.

Corn for grain and silage, hay and soybeans are important livestock feed crops produced in the county.
