Alabama authorizes the Department of Corrections to oversee the state and county jails. The agency also safeguards the general public and property by detaining the offenders and sentencing them. 

As of 2018, Alabama accommodates more than 20,000 convicts in its 15 most popular state correctional facilities. In addition to the famous state prisons, the Alabama DOC has four work release centers, a forestry camp, and two boot camps. Besides, the Holman Correctional Center houses male death row convicts. 

The department has an offender locator tool to help interested parties easily search for an inmate. All state prison records are available to the public through the agency following the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).  

ADOC allows interested members to access detainees' details in person or through the internet. For in-person searches, visit the office at 301 Ripley St, Montgomery, AL 36104. The website shows over 27,000 imprisoned detainees, each with an AIS number. 

Inmate Search process 

The official agency website has a reliable and fast online tool that you can use to locate your imprisoned friends. For a successful online search, follow these steps; 

Step 1: Visit the Alabama DOC website. 

Step 2: Enter the detainee's AIS number or use their first and last names. 

Step 3: Details that match inmates with the specific AIS number pop up. If interested members choose to use the first and last names option, the names of the inmates with the provided names appear.  

Step 4: Double-click on the detainee's name to access more profile details such as; 

• Detainee's full name 
• Gender 
• Birth date 
• Weight 
• Race 
• Hair color 
• Imprisonment details 
• Sentencing and release dates.   

How to Find Escapees   

The ADOC has a lookup homepage with an escapees list accessible to the general public free of charge. The list helps the facility to recapture escapees instantly as the general public can contact 911 or call on 334(353)8912.
